On January 6, 1970, the company R. Barth KG was founded in Hamburg. In the 1970s and 1980s, we were successful as planners and outfitter of the largest and most successful music studios in Germany and Europe – including for the well-known band Kraftwerk. In this first area of responsibility, we made a name for ourselves as an innovative and flexible service provider; the quality and performance of R. Barth KG's systems and equipment became a benchmark in music production technology at the time.
In 1985, with the start of commercial broadcasting, we were asked to design professional radio studios that could compete with the high-tech and demanding equipment of the ARD.
Our first major private radio station setup, Radio Schleswig-Holstein, started broadcasting its program on July 1, 1986, and is therefore considered the first nationwide private radio station with a 24-hour full program.
Since we had already worked with innovative digital recording and editing systems in studio technology, we realized very early on that radio broadcasting would go through a revolutionary change with the switch to digital audio technology.
Finally, in 1991, R. Barth KG was able to equip the first radio studio in Hamburg with a digital playback system. At the same time, during this decade, the DMAX (digital mixing console) was also developed and successfully brought to market.
Successfully active in the professional audio industry for 50 years now!!
By 1995, the DIGISPOT® radio system was already established in many next-generation radio stations and was also used in some ARD and BBC radio studios.
In 2001, we finally installed the first DIGISPOT® software solution, capable of handling the entire range of tasks for a modern radio station.
In the following years, R. Barth KG was commissioned to equip the stations alster radio Hamburg, ok-Radio Hamburg, and Radio Hamburg with the DIGISPOT® II software system.

After the untimely death of the company founder Rüdiger Barth at the end of 2012, the company R. Barth KG was renamed R. Barth GmbH & Co. KG, and his son, Marko Barth, has since successfully continued the long company history, which he then transformed into R. Barth GmbH in 2021 to continue serving our customers optimally in the future.
